History
Project Renew was started by a representative group of local businesses, church pastors, residents and community activists. They were people concerned about their neighborhood. They realized the problems facing their community were so pervasive that a concerted effort by many diverse groups of people was needed to produce meaningful change. They agreed any new organization to be created should not duplicate services already offered. They felt strongly that before any social service delivery plan was devised proper research was needed to address the root causes of the problems. Since the originating group has never undertaken a venture of this nature, progress was slow. They were more concerned with quality than with the speed of development. In 1984, the Rainbow Community Organization was incorporated under Indiana State Law. The first Annual Meeting of the corporation was held in the March of 1984 with the election of the Board of Directors and the acceptance of the by-laws.
